WHAT MAKES HYPERSPECTRAL SPECIAL?
Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) is a technique that captures information across hundreds of spectral bands, extending beyond the visible spectrum into the infrared. Unlike traditional imaging, which assigns primary colors (red, green, blue) to each pixel, HSI analyzes a wide range of wavelengths, effectively creating a spectral fingerprint of the Earth. This fine wavelength resolution enables the detection of features and materials that conventional satellites cannot see, unlocking a wide array of applications in environmental monitoring, agriculture, energy, mining, and other sectors. Each pixel in a hyperspectral image contains a complete spectrum, providing detailed insights into the composition and characteristics of the imaged scene.
Pixxel is a space data company building a constellation of the world’s highest-resolution hyperspectral earth imaging satellites and the analytical tools to mine insights from the data. The constellation will aim to provide global coverage every 24 hours and help detect, monitor, and predict global phenomena across agriculture, mining, environment and energy use cases.
